Less than a week off the plane, Zach and Evelyn are both Australian National Champions. They each won skate races Saturday at Falls Creek. Evelyn followed that up with another win in the classic (!) race on Sunday, while Zach finished third behind Viktor Novotny (he’s not Australian either) and Ben Sim. Hopefully those two will find a little more internet and give us a first-hand report, but until then, congratulations are in order.

We’re hoping for more podiums at the Hoppet.

I’ve finally got on the internet here (we found a wireless network that works on the top bunk in the corner room of Finn’s apartment…but only when the wind isn’t blowing…and only works with Finn’s computer). I’ll probably sack up and pay at the cafe tomorrow to get internet so I can load some pics but I figured that I’d throw in a quick update tonight. Its 9:30 pm here but I’ve given up trying to figure out the time difference; its something like 6 or 7 hours behind but tomorrow. Anyways, first races tomorrow (10km free for guys, 5 km for girls), same distance on Sunday but opposite technique. We’ve put in some moderate volume skiing this week so hopefully we’ve got enough left in the tank. If you’re wondering about the title, I’m getting to it. Just trying to include an Aussie phrase in each blog; although, we’re not really on a ski holiday…according to what I told customs, I’m on a ski business trip. (more…)
